So there's this bird...

Happy Saturday everyone!

Soooooo there's this bird… let's call him George. He took my parking spot!!

Okay so let's back up a little bit. After I cleaned up the apartment a little bit, I went to the fabric store! And I got some goodies… I am so excited about that and can't wait until I share it with you! (later) And  then I went to Walmart to pick up some materials for pineapple salsa! (seriously is delicious) And when I came back to my apartment, I came across this little guy, George.

That's my parking spot! Bleh! That bird is a little monster! But when I pulled up, it wasn't moving out of the way. Just was standing there. So I opted out of the spot and parked in the sunshine. I'm pretty sure the bird is a crow of some kind. At least it's one of those dark brown/black birds… And I decided not to fry it with the heat of my car. So night huh?

When I went to my car to make sure it was locked and put up my sun shades, the mama bird came! Up to where the nest was though and little George was just chirping away and the mama was looking around for him and then she spotted him! And flew down to George. The mama bird seemed to be yelling at Gworge as to say, "Why did you leave the nest?!" And George was squawking as if to say, "FEED ME!" And then the mama flew away. But she's come back a couple times. Every time the mama goes over to the baby, I can just HEAR the squawking bird… And then over in the grass, there was a bunch of the grownup birds chirping at each other as to figure out what to do with this bird that was on the ground. I honestly don't even know how the bird got out of the nest. There isn't even a real opening at the bottom and the bird surly can't fly to go up and out! I just want the little guy to move so I can park in the shade…

Upcoming projects!

Projects project projects...

It's always a matter of trying to decide exactly what you want to do, right? I've decided to make a list of some of the next crafty projects I plan on doing in the near future! (Feel free to give me some input of more ideas of what I can make!!)

1. Day tripper shirt with long sleeves (new fabric should be in tomorrow!)
2. Jersey shirt dress! Something similar at least. I'm attempting a DIY with a little help from this tutorial
3. The new pants pattern I got! (bottom of the post) I just got some sweet chevron fabric I'm going to try out for this
4. This super sweet rope rug! (With a splash of some other colors)
5. A colorful 3D hand! (This just looks way cool)
6. A picture with embroydery string and canvas. (Inspiration fro my girl Tasie)
7. I want to make a new bag...not exactly sure which one...
8. I really need to re fluff my couch cushions…and then possibly make new covers for them. Or maybe try and reupholster the whole couch! (Here and/or here) I may have to wait until I move into a bigger place for this though
9. Reupholster the dining room chairs for the new-to-us table and chairs! (Helpful hints here) They are also waiting patiently at my parents house :)
10. Last but not least….finish ironing on the interfacing for my tshirt quilt.

It think this is a decent amount of stuff to keep me a wee bit occupied. However, these will happen in no particular order and I am more than like sure that I will be adding random other projects into the mix as well. But I'm excited!

And something I like to remind my husband at times… "I'm not messy…I'm crafty!"

Cheers!

Day Tripper shirt!

Good evening fellow bloggers and readers! I am so happy to say that I have completed two more shirts! The day tripper shirt! Yippee! One, at the expense of careless pinning which resulted in multiple seam ripping and resewing….

I've got to say. Probably one of the worst things in sewing, in my opinion, is seam ripping. Seriously it is the worst! (I may need another new seam ripper..) I think what is next after that is sewing something inside out! Especially since you have to rip out all those seams!!! Just terrible really. I had to do that. And I hate it. However, I am slowly learning my own techniques to not make this awful mistakes again. For instance… pins are your friends! Use them!! I, for one, love and hate pins. My husband hates pins because I sometimes leave them everywhere and drop them on the floor… (He hasn't stepped on any yet!) Also, I really need to pay attention to putting the right sides together. I sometimes just get so excited and pin and sew and then realize I did it inside out….and then I have to rip out the seams and do it all over again… Frustrating!!

But anyway. I also tailored my other two pairs of shorts like the pink ones here. The last pair took me only ten minutes! Whoop!

Okay, back to business. Like I said before I got the day tripper pattern. I love it!

Shirt number one! Props to my adorable little nephew who is the star cuteness in the photos! We went to the park together. :)

He's the best! And wanted his ball back. ha

And shirt number two!

The material in the second shirt is way thinner and rolls when you stretch it, which can be a huge pain in the butt. (This is where lots of pinning comes into play and can be your friend.) I think they both turned out quite nicely!

I also picked up some sweet new patterns this weekend!

Ohhhh I can't wait to make this and show you guys!!

New material should be coming on wednesday which means I will be sewing away! And I also got my sisters serger this weekend! So I'll be experimenting with that sucker pretty soon!

Stay tuned for more completed projects to come! :)

Music Monday!

Happy Monday everyone! I've decided that I'm going to start a new little tradition and we are going to go ahead and call it Music Mondays! Any and everyone can contribute. Each Monday I'll make a list of some songs that I really like, heard on the radio that I liked, or maybe some that came up on pandora. Both old and new. I'll try and stick with at least ten songs. Basically what ever songs I'd like to contribute to a feel good music monday!

Here goes the first one!

1. Sublime - Santeria
2. Joan Jett - Bad Reputation (Contribution caused by watching lots of Freaks and Geeks)
3. Maroon 5 - Sunday Morning
4. Matchbox Twenty - Real World
5. Israel 'IZ' Kamakawiwo'ole - Over the Rainbow/ What A Wonderful World
6. John Mayer - My Stupid Mouth
7. Tyler Hilton - Glad
8. The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun
9. Imagine Dragons - Radio Active
10. Lorde - Royal

There you have it!! Feel free to mention your song of the day. Maybe we can discover some new music, or maybe something we haven't heard in awhile. Share the love!

And just remember "Where there is music, there is love."

Cheers!

So I've decided

I think I've decided that I'm going to attempt to start making my own clothes! (Except jeans and shorts and such because that just seems way out of my league...) I'm also going to dive into getting cheap, oversized clothes and revamping them to total awesomeness! Of course with pictures to boot!

Yesterday I just ordered some fabric that I am just so thrilled to receive in the mail. Hopefully it won't take more than a week. I just purchaced the day tripper pattern and I printed and cut it all out yesterday! (I also have the Beatles stuck in my head now)

Boom! I also finished cutting and taping it all together. Do you know what this means?! After work will be a fun filled afternoon of sewing! I am just so thrilled. This is going to be a semi trial run before I get the material that I REALLY want to make with this. The fabric is so cute. Just wait and see!!

Hopefully by tomorrow I'll have pictures of the finished product. :) Also, on Saturday I get to have a sewing craft day with my sister!
The great things about this...
1. I get to see my sister
2. I get to see my nephew!
3. More sewing!
4. My sister is letting me borrow her serger!

I am just super pumped. Stay tuned!

Curly!

When I got home from work today, before I started on dinner, I decided to attempt to curl my hair! I got  the wrapping idea for spirals here! (Of course, I'm in love with this blog.) This way is a million times easier than using a straightener or using a curling iron the way its supposed to be used. (I think I was afraid to try it? I'm not all that great with curling my hair.) I even took a before and after!!

I, for one, think it was a success!! This way is so much easier! And since I have layers, curling it like this doesn't make the shorter hairs stick out all funny! However, my bangs are currently in that really annoying phase where they are too long to go in front of your face but too short to do anything else. Just grow already! Anywho. I think my next investment is going to be one of those little wandy curling irons. That way I don't get the little crimp line and there will me more room for wrapping!

My hubby seems to like this look as well! It took me about half an hour but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get my time down with a little extra practice. :)

Sew much fun!

Soooooooo basically I am obsessed with my sewing machine! It is seriously probably one of my most favoritest (yes, I know that's not a word) things ever right now! <3

This weekend had been so wonderful thus far and Saturday isn't even over yet! How great is that?! Let me just tellll you…

Yesterday after I got home from work, I decided to attempt tailoring a pair of shorts that I have been wanting to get tailored. (I actually have three total that I need to do. So one down and two to go!) I am pretty much obsessed with this blog!! She has the cutest DIY's and it seems that quite a bit of my pinning on pinterest that are diy's are from that lovely lady's blog! She's adorable and so is her family!

Anyway… I basically copied this tutorial for the most part (since there wasn't a specific one for shorts, but you get the gist really). It took me a wee bit longer that I would have liked, since I only got one pair of shorts done… but here is what it came out like! The greenish blue shorts are the same… I just forgot to take a before picture with the pink ones on. :)

I am just so pleased with the outcome! Yay! I will actually wear them now! I just have to do the other 2… And when I get my sister's surger and learn how to use it…. maybe then I can use it for one of my other shorts I have to tailor! But again, I think that was a success!

Also yesterday for date night, the hubby and I went out for sushi at Ra!

The thing at the top (there used to be 6 of them), I honestly thought it was going to be cooked. I should have known better since the name of this place is Ra. Probably for a good reason.. And I thought it was gross so Scott ate those. :) But oh my goodness!! The fancy looking stuff there to the left is called Crazy Monkey something (I can't remember the last word in the title) but it was scrumptious! Pineapply, and avocadoy and nutty… mmm. I would go back just for that. Superb

We also watched Gravity which was soooo good! I would recommend it. And Sandra Bullock is in it and she is just wonderful. :)

Now today was way eventful! I sewed a little bit this morning and then went to a ballet fitness class! (So good!) And went to Jamba Juice! And then went to the painting place! Some of you may know that I recently finished my last painting. Horray! You can see it here if you'd like.

This is after day number one and I included the picture that I found online that I am using as my inspiration I guess?

I have quite a ways to go… ha but I think it's pretty dang good progress for day number uno!

After painting I went home and……took a nap. Best of all, peanut joined me! She is just a darling I'd say. (She's my cat for those of you wondering…)

And then more sewing! I am currently in the ever going process of making a quilt from my band shirts. I cut out all of about 40 of them… and I have ironed on interfacing on maybe five of them…a ways to go still I know.. But I got this lovely idea to make a skirt from the scraps! See here, though she used 2 shirts and not scraps of shirts. I didn't care to line up the seams of each stripe. I think it looks fine just the way it is. Maybe when I do this again and I have non scrappy material, I can measure them out all nicely. :)

I think it turned out just fine. :)  And now I'm going to go spend some time with my hubby after his long day of studying and then enjoy a lovely Sunday tomorrow filled with church and then some relaxation before we all have to go back to work…

Peace & love
