Petite Stitchery & Co - Taffy Dress

Guess what?! The Taffy Dress (aff) is officially released! And it's currently on sale until Monday, June 25th!

I absolutely love the drop waist of this dress. It's super cute and something I haven't seen very much of. I'm also pretty sure the plain dress version is one of my new favorites. The fit is seriously perfect. It has a nice relaxed fit that makes it not seem super dressy. You, of course, can dress it up, but I think it is the perfect casual dress! I recently got some cherry DPB fabric that I was pretty sure I had my mind set on the Boho Babydoll... but I'm pretty sure it needs to be a Taffy! ๐Ÿ˜ However, I have way to many projects going on, too many tests, and my sewing room is a disaster (Again!). So hopefully I'll be able to cut into my pretty cherries soon!

Good news, I didn't have to do too many modifications do this dress, which makes everything way nicer! I did, however, lengthen where the drop waist hits (by 2 inches), mainly for modesty coverage (#mormongirlproblems). I also lengthened the plain dress by an inch. And that's it! (If you couldn't tell, knee length dresses are my JAM.) For the drop waist version I used Liverpool fabric and for the plain version, Double Brushed Poly (DBP), which is heaven. Seriously.

The Taffy Dress also has this cute little gather in the sleeves! I love it but also hate it because it takes more effort...gotta do the basting stitches...gather it...pin it...okay, maybe I just get a little lazy sometimes because that doesn't sound that bad...

We even had some visitors from a few ducks! Probably because they saw my son's cake...(We did a smash cake photo session as well because he's now one! Happy birthday little man!)

There is also an option for an open back, but I tried dropping the regular neckline 2 inches, so it would hit just around my garment top. LOVE it!

This little guy pecked my leg...rude!

(Photo cred to my amazing friend Annie!)

Happy sewing!
Cheers!

Me-Made-May 2018 Recap

My goodness, it's already been almost a month since May ended and I'm finally getting around to this. How is June already almost over?! Anyway, my Me-Made-May was a bit of a challenge. I had a handful of repeats, so hopefully next year will be much better on the me-made front. This year, my main problem is that I work from home. Which means that I rarely get dressed in the morning. And on top of that, I mainly leave the house to go to the gym (and I have hardly ANY  me made workout clothes...) or to the grocery store. Most of my me-mades are dresses or cute tops that I would wear if I need to look decent out in public, not necessarily lounging around the house... So essentially, my me-made-May consisted of a whole lot of me made comfy pants! Next year, I think I might shoot for a mama-made-May (as well as a me-made)! Then, Max can join me in wearing some mama-made makes!

Anyway, here is my recap! (Sorry, no hyperlinks 'cause I'm being a bum.)

Twice Baked Spaghetti Squash

I seriously love spaghetti squash! Though, the first time I made it, I wasn't a real big fan. Spaghetti squash has to be cooked just right or else the "noodles" will be too crunchy (unless you like it that way). This is also why I like twice baked because it ensures that everything is cooked just right!

Ingredients
1 or 2 Spaghetti Squash (I typically just do one at a time)
1 lb turkey sausage (this typically has a higher protein content and less fat than pork sausage)
1 medium yellow onion - cut in to small pieces. (I like to cut them in small squares)
1 Tbsp minced garlic
1/2 jar of Prego Spaghetti Sauce - Garlic & Herbs
1/2 cup mozorella cheese (possibly more or less, I don't measure this one)
1 zucchini or other veggies of your choosing (optional)
Approx. 1 Tbsp of olive oil
Salt & pepper to taste

Directions!

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Cut off the end/tip of the squash and cut the squash in half length wise (using a super sharp knife helps) and scoop out all the seeds
  • Rub about 1/2 Tbsp of olive oil on the inside of the squash, season with salt and pepper to taste
  • Place prepared squash on a baking sheet, cut side down (I like to line my baking sheet with aluminum foil- easier clean up later)
  • Bake squash on the center rack for about 40-50 min, depending on the size of your squash. (The outside should be slightly golden and the inside easy to puncture with a fork)

I typically like to wait about 15-20 min after the squash finishes baking before I do the rest, that way the squash cools down a little bit before I attempt to scoop out all the insides! Once the squash is done, I use a mitt to turn it skin side down on the baking sheet while it cools

  • In a large skillet, brown the turkey sausage.
  • Add onion and garlic until the onion begins to turn transparent (if adding zucchini, I add it here also, so it cooks long enough to get soft).
  • Use a fork to scoop out the spaghetti squash and add to sausage mix. (Don't worry if you can't get it all out to the skin, it helps keep the shell nice!)
  • Add mozzarella cheese to the mix - I typically do a few handfuls until it looks cheesy enough
  • Add about 1/2 a jar of spaghetti sauce
  • Once all combined, place back inside the spaghetti squash shells.
  • Top with more mozzarella cheese and bake for an additional 15 minutes.

And that's it! I loooovvveeeee eating this with Ritz crackers right out of the shell. Seriously the best

Enjoy!!

Cheers!
